On the Road

5:00 a.m. Back to the early wake-ups to beat the heat.
6:15 a.m. On the road to Gallur.
8:00 a.m. In Alcalá de Ebro, the basis for the fictional town Barataria by Don Quixote. Pancho Sanchez believes he is the ruler of a fictional island called Barataria.
8:45 a.m. Shoe and sock break in Luceni, along with cold drinks in the Retirees Hall.
When the local bar opened at 9:00 a.m., everybody got up and left. Lol
So far we have an incredible 6 mi in. I'm surprised at our progress.

9:45 a.m. Unfortunately, it looks like the rest of the morning will not be dirt farm roads, but paved asphalt. Not so fun.

10:10 a.m. Temperature is 74°, sun is full out, and we've done 1 mile on the asphalt. Approximately 4 MI to go.

11:00 a.m. Short break on the side of the road.

12:00 p.m. Arrive Gallur. Checked in.

Early morning was nice. Started at 6:00 a.m. with cool temperatures. Had two breaks to relax. Second half was on asphalt and not so enjoyable. Temperatures ended in the mid-70s. And we made it in by noon so we had good speed.

1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. : the usual chores. Showering, laundry, shopping, eating.

5:00 p.m. It is now 89f outside.

Meaningful Moment

Being able to tie together the Camino Madrid, where I was able to visit the home of Cervantes in Valladolid,  with Alcalá de Ebro on the Camino Ebro today.
Alcalá served as the basis for the fictional town of Barataria, where Sancho Pancha believed that he was ruler.

Random Thought of the Day

Giving Thought to the End

We have made plans for the end part of this trip.

After various discussions, we're going to spend 3 days in Logroño in the autonomous community of La Rioja.
Originally we were thinking about two, but we're making good time on the Camino de Ebro.

One thing I don't particularly care for as we wind down the Camino is hiking through industrial zones or suburban areas.
And as we get towards the end of this month of hiking, I'm willing to rely on public transportation for the odd occasion to bypass less scenic areas.
