On the Road
Not too much to say. Slept in real late.
As we were preparing our backpacks, our host stopped by to tell us that the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona will be on television every morning at 8:00 a.m. this week. Of course, by that time we will be walking already.
Was out of the Pension Mayor in Escatron by 10:00 a.m. Stopped by a bank. Did a little grocery shopping.
Made it to the Bar Paris across from the bus stop for a Cafe Con leche and tostada with butter and jelly.
The Hife Bus arrived on time and we boarded and we're on our way.
The bus ride to Quinto went by quickly. It was amazing to look at all this terrain full of mesas and valleys, that we were bypassing today.
I have to admit that I'm glad it was a rest today, so to speak. If my count is right, Deb and I have hiked 10 days in a row and over 100 Mi. And my body was needing some r&r.
The challenges to hiking today included:
- The distance to Quinto, which is about 30 km or 18 Mi
- The land is hilly, adding an additional challenge, going from mesa to valley to mesa to valley
- The omnipresent sun and heat
On arrival to Quinto, we had a smooth check-in.
The price of this room is about half of many of the places we've stayed, so the luxury items are fewer.
These are expected trade-offs. What matters most, at least in my book is Wi-Fi and then air conditioning.
My bed is a bumpy cot with worn out springs, but I don't care. I could pay double and get something better, if it really mattered.
We went across the Plaza de Espana to the town hall to get information and a stamp for our Pilgrim credential.
The lady in City Hall gave us some recommendations. And we went out and got something to eat for lunch.
It was a good meal, but typical menu del dia. In any event, I now have some pasta and chicken for supper and maybe for breakfast tomorrow.
Meaningful Moment
The weather forecast for tomorrow is an unbelievably 10 to 13° cooler than since we got here. Instead of having to get up at 5:00 a.m. to be walking by 6:00, we're sleeping in until 6:30 and possibly walking by 7:30 a.m.
But this is also the end of any cooling spell. As it looks like from now on the temperatures will return to what we have been having which is 100° f by the late afternoon.
Random Thought of the Day
Been spending the afternoon sitting at the Bar Nirvana with a Cafe Con leche and a pastry filled with Cabello de Angelitos, a sugar Aragoneses pastry filling.
The weather forecast says to expect breezes tomorrow up to 25 mph. I'm not sure they are that strong but they are definitely blowing strong.
It is wonderful to just relax and empty the mind. The cranes are flying at the nearby museum atop the hill, and I'm watching them attempt to land in the really strong breezes.
Ending the night with a Tinto Verano con Casera, basically a wine cooler.

I found the prevalence of orange in the umbrella shade and the town hall in contrast with the green of the trees very interesting.
