On the Road
6:45 a.m. Extra sleep-in because we're expecting good weather with moderate temperatures and only 10 Mi of walking. So we don't need such an early start as 6:00 a.m.
7:15 a.m. Cafe con leche at Bar Nirvana
8:00 a.m. On the road
9:00 a.m. Weather Services say we are walking in constant 15 mph wind with gusts to 30 mph. Don't have measuring instruments, but I believe it.
11:00 a.m. Reached the conjunction of the Camino Catalan and the Camino de Ebro. In 2023, Deb and I walked the Camino Catalan from Barcelona to Pina de Ebro. It was kind of a nice moment to reach that endpoint as we continued on along the Camino Ebro.
Short break before we press on Ford Fuentes
1:00 p.m. Arrived Fuentes de Ebro.
Meaningful Moment
Time with Deb
Having lunch with Deb in the town square. Sharing a mixed salad with goat cheese and nachos with avocado and cheese sauce. And, of course, the always agua con gas with ice and lemon.
What we have done and what we have to do
I was doing the math and these are rough approximations. When we reach Zaragoza tomorrow, we will have walked about 128 Mi, skipped about 20 mi due to the heat, and have about 120 Mi to Logroño.
The significance of this is that we have completed approximately 50% of this Camino in 2 weeks, and still have two weeks to complete the other 50%.
Random Thought of the Day
Nice 11 Mile day. Temperatures were much cooler. Upper 70s to low '80s. Still lots of sun but being 15 to 20° f cooler makes a big difference.
Our guidebook described today's stage as somewhat monotonous. While, this may be true for some folks, we found beauty in the various plantings of fruits and crops, the blending of the sky and the terrain at the horizon and the occasional sounds of water running through the irrigation channels.
Today was 11 mi and 5 hours of fields of farms, the changing of crops being grown provided points of interest.
I feel it requires a special kind of patience to spend hours walking down a dirt road where the view essentially remains the same.
Trees become precious.
Which road to take? There were no signposts or markers. On this Camino, I found gps tracks absolutely indispensable.
The correct answer is left. Right takes one off into the fields and in the wrong direction.
Walking amongst and dwarfed by the tall, tall brush.
This house marks the end of our 2023 Camino Catalan - approaching from the east. Now in 2025, we approach from the southeast along the Camino de Ebro.
A special moment of conjunction, joining past and present, for the two of us as we continue our lives and explorations and adventures together.
Deb wanted a picture of me and a train.
Faded as I had to zoom in from afar, but approaching Fuentes de Ebro
Our lodging. Half the price of many places we stayed.
Good place. Quality and comfort don't always have to be trade-offs with cost.
