On the Road

6:00 a.m. Wake up. Intense thunderstorm activity throughout the area through 11:00 a.m.. so back to bed.

9:00 a.m. Wake up again. Headed out to a bar to get coffee and churros. I must say I'm disappointed in the churros in this region. The two times I've tried they have been not fresh.

11:15 a.m. On the road
12:45 p.m. Quick break in Sobradiel at the municipal pool.

1:45 p.m. Torres de Berrellén. Temperature is 73° f. We have gone 5.8 MI so far.

3:45 p.m. Quick grocery market stop in Alagón. Temperature is 75°. Sun is beginning to break through the clouds so I put on some sunblock and my buff to protect my neck.
We are 3 mi from our hostel for the night. According to the weather forecast, there is rain showers coming in. We should beat them to our lodging.

5:30 p.m. Arrive at Hostal Cubero. Never did meet any rain showers.

Cloud cover all day with temperatures starting in the '60s and ending in the '70s. Perfect day for hiking. In fact, weather wise the best day we've had so far and will probably have for the entire Camino.

Meaningful Moment

Deb and I both agreed at 6:00 a.m. that because of the intense rain activity through 11:00 a.m., that we would just stay in bed.

We slept for another 3 hours. No doubt an indication of how tired and exhausted we are.

A fortunate turn of events is that today is predicted to be under 80° most of the day. If on the other hand, this had been another 100° day, being forced to hike in the afternoon would have been absolutely brutal, if not simply impossible.

I expect minimum impact on our overall hiking plans.
All this really means is that today when we reach our destination, I doubt we'll take much time to explore anything.

If we can start walking by noon, we will arrive at 6:00 p.m. which will be enough time to eat something and do laundry and get ready to go to bed.

Random Thought of the Day

Took Deb on a date to the Cabañas de Ebro municipal city pool for dinner. But it's actually pretty good and it seems to be the community social Center.

Given that we arrived to Cabañas de Ebro so much later than usual, we had a pretty good time at the municipal pool. I had pizza and ice cream. Deb had a combo platter of fried squid, merluza, pimientos  padrones ( lightly grilled green peppers ) and french fries.

We sat and made light talk and relaxed after an unexpected day of delay and adjustment.

Storm over Utebo. On way to get breakfast coffee and churros

This is why we are sleeping in.

All those '60s and '70s should be '80s and '90s. Those icons showing cloud cover should be all sun ( On a normal day ). LOL.

Can't tell if we're going to have blue skies or clouds, but the color contrast is amazing.

Storm clouds on the way out of Utebo, but fortunately we had great weather today.

The Church of Santiago Apóstol located in Sobradiel.
The Baroque-style church dates back to the 17th century.
Its dedication to Saint James (Santiago Apóstol) reflects the devotion in a town that lies along the Ebro section of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.

Found a charming bridge over the Rio Jalón.
Slightly off the camino, but a good find.

Following the Rio Jalón, a feeder into the Rio Ebro.

Iglesia de San Juan, city of Alagón
Storks are symbols of good luck and are seeing very, very often nesting on churches where they are left alone.

Once again, we are walking alongside the Rio Ebro. Our route brings us alongside the river and away from it and next to it over and over again.
